How To Draw A “Kilroy Was Here” Cartoon

For today’s instalment of my “How To Draw” series, I thought that I’d show you how to draw a ‘Chad’ or a ‘Kilroy Was Here’ cartoon.

I’m sure that you’ve probably seen at least one of these scrawled on either a public bathroom wall and/or on a desk in school/college/university. As types of graffiti go, they’re a fairly traditional one and the “Chad”/”Kilroy” drawing apparently originated either during or slightly before World War Two.

I think that the “Kilroy Was Here” version is the American version, since the traditional version in the UK has ‘Wot? No [insert any word here]” as the dialogue.

Now, here’s the obligatory, patronising, stating-the-obvious disclaimer: If you’re going to draw this as a piece of graffiti, then only draw it on things that belong to you or on things that you have permission to graffiti (from the person who owns it).
