Today’s Art (16th June 2020)

Originally, I’d planned to make a more “serious” gothic vampire painting, inspired by old horror movies. But, this digitally-edited painting quickly ended up going in a slightly… sillier… direction instead.

As usual, this painting is released under a Creative Commons BY-NC-ND licence.

Books – A Comic by C. A. Brown

Well, it has been literally years since I made a comic-format blog article and, although this one ended up being a slightly introspective ramble about getting back into reading books about 8-9 months earlier (after not reading much for the 2-3 years before that), it was so much fun to make.

However, due to making these articles/comics quite far in advance, I made this comic several months before I ended up getting a more modern refurbished computer (so the cynical parts about system requirements etc.. are a bit out of date. Plus, expect modern “AA” indie game reviews to start appearing here occasionally from about November onwards 🙂 )

Enjoy 🙂

As usual, this comic is released under a Creative Commons BY-NC-ND licence.

Today’s Art (31st December 2018)

Well, it’s a little early, but Happy New Year everyone 🙂 And, yes, I’m still surprised that we’re going to be living in the same year that “Blade Runner” is set in. And, yes, I had to make a cartoon about it (you can see the “work in progress” line art for it here), featuring the characters from many of my webcomics.

As usual, this cartoon is released under a Creative Commons BY-NC-ND licence.

Merry Christmas Everyone :)

Merry Christmas everyone 🙂 I hope that you have a wonderful day 🙂 Normal articles will resume tomorrow but, in the meantime, here’s this year’s Christmas comic (and, if anyone’s curious, here’s the “work in progress” line art for it too. Lots of other comics featuring these characters can also be found here too.).

As usual, this cartoon is released under a Creative Commons BY-NC-ND licence.

Today’s Art (5th November 2018)

Well, since it’s Bonfire Night tonight, I thought that I’d make a themed cartoon featuring the characters from most of my webcomics, in a similar way to what I did last year. If you want to see the “work in progress” line art for this year’s comic, it can be found by clicking here.

As usual, this cartoon is released under a Creative Commons BY-NC-ND licence.

Today’s Art (25th September 2018)

Well, although I hadn’t planned to make any fan art for today, a combination of tiredness and the fact that I’ve been replaying “Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines” (as a Tremere again too! I still can’t believe I didn’t realise that you could actually live in the Chantry on my first playthrough!) meant that I had the sudden idea to make a completely and utterly silly parody/fan art cartoon based on this amazing game 🙂 And, yes, the cartoon probably won’t make sense if you haven’t played the game.

And if you’re puzzled about the dialogue between Jeanette Voerman and Maximillian Strauss, it might have just been me (or my computer monitor), but Strauss looks slightly blue in the game’s intro movie. And, yes, the glowing purple thing on top of the Tremere Chantry reminded me a little bit of the “Eye Of Mordor” (?) from the “Lord Of The Rings” films too.

Likewise, if you’re puzzled by the dialogue between La Croix and Nines, “Boney” was a popular sarcastic nickname for Napoleon Bonaparte during the Napoleonic Wars… and well, this just seemed inherently funny.

Since this is a parody/ fan art, this cartoon is NOT released under any kind of Creative Commons licence.

Today’s Art (21st August 2018)

Woo hoo! This is the first comic in “Damania Doodle” – a slightly “non-canonical” mini series of single-panel monochrome cartoons featuring the characters from my long-running webcomic series (you can find many more comics featuring these characters in the 2016-18 segments of this page).

Basically, this mini series came about because – due to being busy with various things – I realised that I’d have to make a quick & easy mini series this month if I wanted to avoid a comic hiatus. Even so, I quite like how this comic update turned out – hopefully, the other 4-5 comic updates will be just as much fun to make too 🙂

As usual, this comic update is released under a Creative Commons BY-NC-ND licence.

Today’s Art (5th November 2017)

Well, although I’d planned to take a short break from making comics after I overstretched slightly with this year’s Halloween comic, one of the regrets I had last year was that I hadn’t posted a comic on the 5th November (Bonfire Night) featuring the characters from my occasional webcomic series (who can be seen in the “2016” and “2017” segments of this page). So, I thought that I’d do that this year.

Since making a separate line art post would be kind of silly, you can see the line art for this cartoon by clicking here.

As usual, this cartoon is released under a Creative Commons BY-NC-ND licence.

Today’s Art (12th September 2017)

Well, I was still in the mood for making 1990s style art. And, although this painting was going to be a more “serious” 1990s sci-fi painting, I ended up taking it in a much sillier direction.

And, yes, I’ve just realised that the 486 was actually invented in the late 1980s, but one of the earliest computers I remember using was a 486 machine. So, it’s a mixture of nostalgia and artistic licence or whatever.

As usual, this painting is released under a Creative Commons BY-NC-ND licence.

Editorial Cartoon – Microsoft To Discontinue MS Paint!?!?!

[CLICK FOR LARGER IMAGE] “Editorial Cartoon – Microsoft To Discontinue MS Paint ?!?!?” By C. A. Brown

[Update (25/7/17): Yay! It seems like MS Paint has been saved, sort of..]

Well, a while ago, I read the terrible news. I then opened MS Paint and made an editorial cartoon. With a mouse. In “Paint”. It seemed like a fitting thing to do.

Of course, having an older computer, I have nothing to worry about. But, the idea that MS Paint may not be included on new computers or even worse, may potentially be removed [Edit: Hopefully just not updated, rather than actually removed] from future updates to the modern version of Windows, is very disturbing. Apparently, it’s going to be replaced with a program called “Paint 3D” (which looks a little bit like Paint, but doesn’t seem to be the same).

MS Paint may not be a fancy program. But, it works. You might not be able to create good art in it easily (but I tried here) but that was never it’s true purpose. It was a quick, simple program that you could use to correct small mistakes in your art. There is nothing more practical or useful for this purpose than good old MS Paint 5.1 (and earlier).

But, in this modern age of computing, “practical” and “useful” seem to be dirty words. I mean, a few months ago, I happened to look at one of the more modern versions of Paint briefly, and it was a confusing mass of “ribbon” menus and options, rather than a simple, reliable, useful program. So, maybe this shocking news isn’t entirely unexpected.

Still, for those poor souls who get a modern PC in the future, there do seem to be some open source programs out there that are vaguely similar to classic paint. However, the most user-friendly looking one of these seems to be Linux-only [Edit: There’s a version of it for Windows too :)].

Still, with the direction that Windows seems to be going in these days (apparently, the latest Windows doesn’t even have a DVD player program by default!), I guess that Linux may well end up becoming more popular…..

Still, goodbye classic MS Paint (1985-2017). You won’t be forgotten and you won’t go unused!
