The Complete “Work In Progress” Line Art For My “Nocturnal” Halloween Comic

Well, I thought that I’d do my usual thing of showing off the “work in progress” line art for my recent Halloween comic.

If I remember rightly, most of the changes between the line art and the finished comic were visual changes rather than dialogue changes (although there are a couple of these, such as in the final panel of page 7).

This is mostly because I refined the dialogue in the time between planning the comic and drawing the line art, so most of the dialogue changes happened before the comic was made.

Still, there were quite a few visual changes. Most of these involved reducing the amount of blood in a few scenes (since it looked a little bit excessive) and, yes, this can be seen in the line art since I used red ink for the blood. The most notable example is probably in the third and fifth panels of page eight.

The most notable visual change is probably the cover, which I’d originally envisaged as a minimalist thing featuring silhouettes of the characters (with red fangs). But, this didn’t look that good. So, I had to spend quite a while adding lots of extra detail to the finished cover art digitally.

Anyway, here’s the line art (you can click on each piece of line art to see a larger version of it) Enjoy 🙂

The Complete “Work In Progress” Line Art For My “Damania Reconnected” Webcomic Mini Series

Well, since my “Damania Reconnected” webcomic mini series finished recently, I thought that I’d do my usual thing of showing off the “work in progress” line art from when I was making the comic.

Given that this comic had a somewhat rushed production schedule, there were a few art/dialogue changes between the line art and the finished comics. The most notable examples can be found in the final panel of the first comic (which went through a couple of slight art changes and a major dialogue change [mostly because I worried that the Brexit-related satire in the original comic didn’t quite work, so I changed it to a line about driving quickly]) and in the third panel of the final comic (where Harvey’s dialogue is completely different).

The Complete “Work In Progress” Line Art For My “Damania Doodle” Webcomic Mini Series

Well, as usual, I thought that I’d show off the “Work In Progress” line art for my recent “Damania Doodle” webcomic mini series.

Although this mini series consisted of a series of six monochrome digitally-edited drawings, I used this scanned line art as a basis for the digital elements of each comic.

Although there are a few small dialogue and/or art changes between the line art and the finished comics, they’re mostly fairly similar to each other.

You can click on each piece of line art to see a larger version of it. Anyway, enjoy 🙂

The Complete “Work In Progress” Line Art For My “Damania Resort” Webcomic Mini Series

Well, as usual, I thought that I’d provide scans of the “work in progress” line art for my latest webcomic mini series that finished recently.

If I remember rightly, there weren’t that many changes to the dialogue and/or art between the line art and the finished comics. This was mostly because this mini series was slightly more well-planned than some of my mini series (so, most of the changes – including a major change to the ending – happened at the planning stage, rather than during editing).

As usual, you can click on each piece of line art to see a larger version of it. Enjoy 🙂

The Complete “Work In Progress” Line Art For My “Damania Retroactive” Webcomic Mini Series

Well, since my “Damania Retroactive” webcomic mini series finished recently, I thought that I’d do my usual thing of showing off the “work in progress” line art I scanned whilst making it (and apologies for the disruption to the scheduling of my “1990s films” review series that this post has caused).

Since this webcomic mini series was vaguely topical (I make these comics quite far in advance, so the time that the characters travel back to was actually the time I was making it), there were a surprising number of changes between the dialogue in the line art and in the finished comics.

This was mostly because I was influenced by events in the news at the time, or because I worried that parts of the dialogue might not sound emphatic enough or might sound too emphatic etc.. I also occasionally ended up rewriting parts of the dialogue and altering the characters’ expressions slightly too. Likewise, there were some fairly major changes to the second comic (even including changing the title of this comic from “Opinion” to “Time Troll” in the finished comic too).

As usual, you can click on each piece of line art to see a larger version of it.

The Complete “Work In Progress” Line Art For My “Damania Resurfaced” Webcomic Mini Series

Well, as usual, I thought that I’d show off the “work in progress” line art for my latest webcomic mini series.

If I remember rightly, there were slightly more dialogue changes between the line art and the finished comics than usual in this mini series. Most of these changes can be seen (in a scribbled-out form) in the “late night TV” comic, mostly because I’d originally planned to include comments about censorship and “British prudishness” (which I changed to “old-fashioned prudishness” in the finished comic since it seemed a little odd/redundant in context).

The third comic also had a dialogue change too. Originally, I’d planned to show Derek ranting about political criticism of videogames (in a troll-like fashion) but I was worried that, if people hadn’t seen the series before, they might not understand the characters or that it was satire. So, in the finished comic, I changed this dialogue to cartoon-like symbolic profanity (eg: &*%$!! etc..).

Likewise, the last comic in this mini series contains a scribbled-out line of dialogue (which originally read “Nonsense, I’m sure the government…”, I think).

As usual, you can click on each piece of line art to see a larger version of it if it’s too small to read here.

The Complete “Work In Progress” Line Art For My “Damania Regression” Webcomic Mini Series

Well, in the traditional fashion, I thought that I’d show off the “work in progress” line art that I scanned whilst making my recent “Damania Regression” webcomic mini series.

Unlike some of my mini series, there were hardly any dialogue/art changes between the line art and the finished comic (I think I replaced the word “that” with “the” in the second comic). However, since this mini series featured more digital art than usual, the line art for the final comic is missing two panels (since I added them digitally in the finished comic update).
