Today’s Art (19th October 2017)

First of all, apologies if you’ve seen this digitally-edited painting before. I used it in one of my articles from earlier this year as an example of a failed painting. But, I ended up adding it to the daily painting line up because I was eager to get started on this year’s Halloween comic (which will start tomorrow, and has to start on the 20th in order to finish on Halloween. Hence the need for filler material for today, such as this painting)

So, that’s why today’s painting is a recycled piece of old failed art. But, stay tuned for some cool-looking comic cover art tomorrow 🙂

As usual, this painting is released under a Creative Commons BY-NC-ND licence.

Today’s Art (16th October 2017)

Well, today’s digitally-edited painting is another Aberystwyth painting. Originally, I’d planned to make some gothic horror art, like this drawing from 2015 (which is based on the same old photo that I took in 2009). But, whilst editing this painting, I decided that it would be interesting to go in more of a 1980s horror VHS cover/horror novel cover kind of direction instead.

Well, due to time reasons, today’s digitally-edited painting ended up being another 1980s-style cyberpunk painting based on one of my old eerily deserted 5-6am photos of Aberystwyth from 2009. I only had time to add layered rain to the distant background in this painting though.

Like with my previous cyberpunk Aberystwyth painting, I added an extra digital effect that made it look like I’d painted it on fancy paper. Likewise, the line art for this painting looks more detailed than the actual painting.

Yes! Today’s digitally-edited painting was originally just going to be a painting of a bookshop/newsagents from the early 2000s. But, I was feeling even more inspired than I had expected, so it ended up going in a much more interesting 1980s/90s cyberpunk style direction 🙂 And, yes, I used a bit of artistic licence since – were I to draw a realistic early 2000s horror bookshelf, it’d probably consist of at least 50% Stephen King novels…

And, yes, I consider this painting to be a belated part of one of my two “awesome stuff” art series (here’s a page containing links to the first one, I can’t remember if I compiled the second one into a single post)

As usual, this painting is released under a Creative Commons BY-NC-ND licence.
