Today’s Art (12th December 2017)

Well, I felt like doing something a bit different than painting from life and I’d originally planned to make a “low inspiration” painting based on this photo I took in Aberystwyth back in 2009 (and, yes, I’ve blanked out the number plate in the photo).

But, whilst I was making this digitally-edited painting, I felt like doing something a bit different and, although the painting was supposed to have a “film noir” look to it, it ended up looking a lot more “vivid” than I expected 🙂 But, although I really like this painting as a whole, there are a few mistakes with the perspective, composition etc.. in it.

As usual, this painting is released under a Creative Commons BY-NC-ND licence.

Well, I was in the mood for painting from life again but, since I was slightly tired when I made this painting, I ended up making a digitally-edited still life painting of some more tortoise figurines (including the one in this painting) and other random stuff that happened to be nearby.

As usual, this painting is released under a Creative Commons BY-NC-ND licence.

Well, with this digitally-edited painting, I decided to take a break from painting from life and do something that I haven’t done in quite a while. Namely, making a silly parody of a historical painting. This time round, it’s “The Cardsharps” by Caravaggio.

As usual, this painting is released under a Creative Commons BY-NC-ND licence.

Well, I was still in the mood for painting from life when I made this digitally-edited painting. Originally, it was just going to be a still life of an adorable little tortoise figurine I’d found gathering dust on one of the shelves of my computer desk a few days ago. But, whilst examining it and sketching it, I thought that I’d try to draw my hand as well and, before I knew it, I’d sketched out a much more detailed first-person perspective painting. Although I used a bit of artistic licence with some parts of the background, I really like how it turned out 🙂

Well, this digitally-edited painting was kind of interesting. Basically, when I was having dinner, I happened to notice my reflection in a beer bottle that was sitting on one end of the table – so, I made a very quick sketch using a nearby pen (yes, which annoyingly happened to be blue), pencil and piece of paper. And, a while later, I turned it into a full painting. This painting is also something of a companion piece to this other reflection-based painting that I posted here last year (but probably made in 2015).

As usual, this painting is released under a Creative Commons BY-NC-ND licence.
